“你是一个好孩子，”市长先生说。“你是一个有礼貌的孩子。我想你的妈妈正在河边洗衣服吧？你现在是要把藏在衣袋里的东西一定是送给她。这对你母亲说来是一件很不好的事情！你弄到了多少？”

THE STORY OF A CHILD WHO LEARNED TO APPRECIATE HIS MOTHER'S SACRIFICES

A year ago, a young boy was wandering in the city. He was passing by a house with an open window. The mayor was standing there, wearing only his shirt and holding a newspaper to cover his chest. His hair was neatly combed, and he had shaved himself.

"Listen up, little one!" the mayor boomed.

The little one wasn't anyone else but the son of a poor laundry woman. He had been walking down the street when he heard someone calling out to him. He took off his hat respectfully and stood before the mayor's house.

"You're a good kid," said the mayor. "You're polite too! I bet your mom is at the river washing clothes right now? You must have something hidden in your pocket for her."

"Yes... half a bottle," replied the child hesitantly.

"That's plenty for today," said Mayor.

"No... it's from yesterday!" corrected Child nervously.

"Two-and-a-half bottles make one whole bottle! She's such waste! People like you are really terrible! Tell your mom she should be ashamed of herself."
