His wisdom comes from years of observing people and understanding human nature. Despite being a poor man, he has a rich inner life and is respected by everyone in the village.
One day, a group of bandits came to the village and threatened to attack it if they did not get what they wanted. The villagers were terrified but sell charcoal bravely stood up to them. He knew that giving in would only embolden the bandits and lead to more trouble in the future. Instead, he proposed that they settle their dispute through a game of chess.
The leader of the bandits was intrigued by this proposal and agreed to play against him. Sell charcoal played with all his might, using every trick he knew to outsmart his opponent. In the end, he won the game convincingly, impressing both sides with his skill.

The story goes that one day, Emperor Wu Di was on an inspection tour when he happened upon Sell Charcoal playing chess against one of his generals at a local teahouse. Intrigued by Sell Charcoal's exceptional skills as well as his humble demeanor despite being so poor compared to those around him; Emperor Wu Di decided then there must be something special about this man who could outwit even someone like himself.
Emperor Wu Di asked Sell Charcoal how it was possible for such an ordinary person like him have such extraordinary abilities? And thus began their conversation which lasted into late night hours discussing politics philosophy etcetera
Sell Charcoal humbly explained that knowledge doesn't belong just because you are born into wealth or power; true wisdom can be gained through experience observation patience & humility regardless where you come from whether rich or poor smart or dumb old or young wise men learn much more than scholars do says sell charcoal
This made quite an impression on emperor wu di who later granted sell charcoal permission build new home near palace grounds where food water medicine will always be provided free supply thereby raising standard living conditions for many others living nearby
From then onwards till death buy selling coal remained close friend confidant advisor & mentor serving empire under various emperors' reigns while continuously spreading message: anyone no matter social status education background may become great individual if willing learn grow adapt embrace change never stop striving improve self
